Passaic Valley hosted Wayne Hills earlier this week and will visit West Milford on April 20 at 4 p.m.
For the girls, head coach Bill Johnson noted it was an up-and-down week for his Hornets.
“We lost to both Lakeland and Fair Lawn, but we came back to finish fifth at the Passaic County Relays,” said Johnson.
The coach noted a solid week by Cat Cole.
“Cat earned four medals and had a very good day at the relays,” said Johnson. “With her leading the way, we were able to place third in the shuttle hurdles.”
The shuttle hurdles team included Cole, Steph Wasik, Elyssa Stephano and Supharattiya May.
Passaic Valley also finished third in the triple jump, led by Wasik and Alyssa Sole, third in the intermediate hurdles as Brittany Bove and Stephano excelled and sixth in the sprint medley, which featured Sole, Mary Boudaher and Geneva Irizarry.
“Our best performance was turned in by our javelin team,” said Johnson. “The girls placed second with a combined distance of 251-05.”
Passaic Valley was led in the javelin relay by Jehan Aabayhan, Andreana Karoullas and Tessa McCormick. A good day at the relays featured fifth place finishes by the distance medley, long jump and discus teams and a sixth place effort from the 4×100, 4×1600, sprint medley and shot put relay teams.
In the dual meets, Cole and Sole led the Hornets.
“Cat Cole won, or finished second in the events that she was in,” said Johnson. “And Alyssa Sole contributed valuable points in the sprints.”
Clifton repeated as team champions at the county relays, scoring 128 points to finish ahead of runner-up Wayne Hills by a 42-point margin of victory. The Mustangs picked up gold medals in the triple jump, high jump, pole vault, shot put and high hurdles.
NOTES: Passaic Valley will compete in the Big North Championships on April 27 and the Passaic County championship meet at Wayne Hills on May 10 and 11. There is also a novice meet at Clifton High School in the Big North on May 2.
